Ludisia discolor var. nigrescens 'Ambrosia'

-Jewel Orchid

A variety of Ludisia, the leaves are a velvety dark green and much like its relative this plant can develop perfect hues of deep maroon. The veining can vary in color from plant to plant and runs parallel to the center of the leaf. We typically see plants with metallic silver and grayish white and even pink and dark red veining. It's common for the center line to be the most visible on young leaves. Growths consist of large rosettes of leaves similar to the shape of an egg and will form on average every 2 & 1/2". Because it's slightly more difficult to come by than some of the other Jewel varieties, it’s a must have addition to an already established collection as well as a beautiful center piece for a modest enthusiast.

This is a great starter plant for someone looking to enter the world of Jewel orchids.

While this is not considered a miniature variety, this plant is ideal for larger sized vivariums and terrariums or smaller ones with regular grooming. They will form beautiful, velvety, full clusters of foliage once established.

This variety also does particularly well in open environments and hanging planters.

Favored by both hobbyists and professional growers, this orchid grows faster and can tolerate a larger temperature range than other varieties of Jewels.
