Ludochilus 'Sea Turtle'

(Lus. discolor var. nigrescens x Anct. formosanus)

-Jewel orchid

Showing a resemblance to its descendant the well-known Ludisia discolor, the leaves are a velvety dark green and much like its relative can develop perfect hues of deep maroon. The veining can vary in color from plant to plant and runs parallel to the center of the leaf. We typically see plants with metallic silver or grayish white. Growths consist of large rosettes of leaves similar to the shape of the Ludisia discolor and will form on average every 1 1/2" to 2". The Ludochilus 'Sea Turtle' is a stunning example of a hybrid. Because it's slightly more difficult to come by than some of the other Jewel varieties, it’s a must have addition to an already established Jewel collection as well as a beautiful center piece for a modest enthusiast.

This is a great starter plant for someone looking to enter the world of Jewel orchids as the care requirements are minimal.

While the Ludochilus 'Sea Turtle' is not considered a miniature variety, this plant is ideal for larger sized vivariums and terrariums or smaller ones with regular grooming. They will form beautiful, glittering, full clusters of foliage once established.

Favored by both hobbyists and professional growers, this orchid grows slightly faster and can tolerate a larger temperature range than many other varieties of Jewels.
